How old are you all?

  • @LeeG and @gooner it takes a certain type of person to take action while injured/out of action and change careers after being 'taken out' of their existing career, kudos for that, particularly when you live in a country where you can leech off the state. Double kudos.

"Sometimes we all need to be pushed" - damn right, couldn't agree more. I wish we didn't need to be pushed but you can do amazing things when pushed to the absolute limit. I'm more proud of the fact that I've come out the other side of some horrendous situations than making £X amount of money per month.
  • "Sometimes we all need to be pushed" - Golden sentence right there. Most of the successful guys comes from being pushed out or either left with no option. We can't even imagine what our limits maybe if we were not pushed by life or by circumstances.
  • Ehm.... 47 years ago I was born :D
Seo is part time job since 1 year ago. Since 6 years ago I have reduced my first job to 5 month per year, travelling for the other 7 months, and I'm now pushing strong SEO for to try to reduce still more that 5 months/year of rat race :)]

Life is beautiful without "clock in" at the office every morning, you maybe sometime can work 12 hours at home with seo, but it's completely another thing, especially if done from all around the world :-D

    Good luck to everybody! :)>-

Oh, I have to have an office, I cannot work from home - tried and failed many times!
  • @spunko2010 - I'm the opposite. I 'optimise' my life the same way as SEO. I work from home: I have zero commute, make lunch the night before and get a full 8 hours (and some...) without stopping. I have my first child on the way too, so I can in and around at all times. Yes productivity will go down but this is why I'm trying to nail SER so I can trim down time spent on actual work during the day. I'll happily work at night/whenever when the little one is here ;)

I work at home too, but like @peterperseo i hope to be working from somewhere nice, like a beachside villa anytime soon :D

Interesting that despite all these 'SEO is dead' posts on other forums, most people who have posted here disagree.

@judderman - I predict that in a not too distant future, that office that you don't have is going to become a very tempting proposition. :D

Haha, fair enough :) We'll see in a few months. I'm sure I'll be sat outside McDonalds on their WiFi...

@gooner....working in the tropical sun isn't possible. You do anything and everything to stay out of the heat.
  • goonergooner SERLists.com
@judderman - I'm thinking more of working in my air con office by day, sitting on the beach, beer in hand by late afternoon. That's the dream anyway.

  • :) Fair enough :) If I was to do it again I'd go less Asia and more European/USA for heat/living/slightly less corruption. That said, there are some amazing sights to see. If you want to do it, go and do it. You sound like you have your online business sorted, I wasn't as prepared (well, I was, but it went pear shaped and had to fast-track into working online).
  • goonergooner SERLists.com
@judderman - Where did you go? Thailand? I'm planning on Bali, i have family over there so it should be a little bit easier hopefully.
  • LeeGLeeG Eating your first bourne

Believe me, living in a hot country aint fun.

When it hits 40 in the shade in the day, sitting working at 3am to try and catch some cool air aint the best life

When your pool is over 30 in the summer, even that don't help cool you down

    Running lap top coolers

Turning on the aircon is enough to trip the electric and kill your desktop.

Add to that, internet speeds that make sending letters quicker than sending emails at times and you soon get fed up with it

I was outside in a t-shirt today though

  • Yeah Thailand, and yeah all of what LeeG said :)

Haha 40 is ridiculous, but 23 - 31 degrees 12 months of the year sounds like heaven.
It depends a lot on where you are exactly of course. But i couldn't cope with bad electric/internet, that just makes life too hard.

Feel free to move back then LeeG :P 2 inches of rain and gales anyone?
  • goonergooner SERLists.com
lol @spunko2010, yea i'm happy i don't live by the coast right now.
  • Just moving somewhere that actually gets a proper summer every year would do me just fine :D
  • I was born and lived in Vietnam, where you sweat by simply sitting in the shades. Then moved to Russia, where you don't want to get out of your bed under double blankets during the winter at all. Now I'm in California and it's a golden middle. Love it.

Started learning SEO about a year ago. Working hard so eventually I can bring my family here.

Still have my full-time office job, which actually introduced me to the world of internet marketing. But of course, just like many people here, I would love to go on my own.

We would be back if we could, trust me

I needed surgery on both eyes, two years ago

Private hospital was my only option.

1500€ per eye to have cataracts removed and Perspex lenses inserted

Half an hour of letting two blokes you had shook hands with insert needles and sharp pointy things to do god knows what to your eye's and no movement allowed, one little sneaky fart is all it takes to bodge the operation.

The anethatist would make a bad darts player

The surgeon was far more skilled. But he was having a bad day on the first operation

Just my run in with the lunatic with needles made the first operation a nerve wracking experience

Trust me, you cant look away they inject straight into your eye

Poor nurse they let me hold the hand of on the first operation was rumoured to be off work with a broken hand on the second operation :D

Try doing seo and computer work with 30% vision, which I was, until I grew the man parts to have the surgery. It took four months for the man parts to grow back enough for the second operation

Cataracts can hit at any age as I found out

I haven't seen green grass for over six years and snow, I dream of seeing that stuff again

June to October, I wear shorts. July and August, you sweat all day, every day and dream of not wearing shorts. You have a shower in the hot months, five minutes later, you have just as much sweat and the need for more deodorant

  • spunko2010spunko2010 Isle of Man
You could say the grass isn't greener then? (sorry)

@spunko2010 I seem to wonder sometimes, whenever I read your posts how you make those 6 figure monthly incomes, I really do. :D! Catch Me If You Can

    Trust me, its far worse.

Imagine going out for a beer and thinking your on the set of "The Walking Dead" :O

When your in your mid 40's and your one of the youngest British singles in the village

If you go past a villa and people are out by it, you look away in case any are topless.

    Droopy knee knockers :O

Winter months is even worse. Scousers in shorts on holiday, while your in full winter kit, body warmer, jumper etc :O

  • "Sometimes we all need to pushed, best thing that ever happened to me!"

@gooner with all respect. That is totally untrue.

You adapted to this bad situation and you become more successfull than you was.
Nobody want to be pushed to extremes. Yes, after you survived - you are better person, more intelligent, more specialised in some area.

But without this bad situation - you could be still happy person, not so specialized, but still happy.
  • Maybe living somewhere like this could help?

That's the beautiful Costa Rica. Matt is very fond of it and I think he has secured some villa like that or something, not very sure. But he is soon going to move there from UK. Talks about it over here - http://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/income-report/monthly-income-growth-traffic-report-december-2013/

I do think it's a great place. But I'm not too sure if it's just good for holidaying or living too actually after hearing numerous stories as well.

Either way, living in India is kinda okay. I do enjoy my house where it is built in such a way (especially my room) that the sun shines all day long, giving nice inspiration to work off. Not a beach like feeling lol, but close. Yeah, it definitely gets way hotter in summer, anywhere around 40-45 degrees. You got to have an AC, especially the foreigners or tourists otherwise you can sweat nice gallons of water lol.
  • Fk LeeG that's quite a story about your eyes. And you're right, I've only just grown my hair back from pulling it out at electricity going off and the Internet connection being down all the time.

System0102 California sounds great but is the cost of living not a bit crazy (I know it depends on a multitude of factors).
  • LeeG, world is full of different places, just everyone has to find his right place.

I'm living in a tropical city now, only 3° lat north, so close to the Equator, and I live with 30°C day / 20° C night, full of breeze every moment of the day, and I never need air con. I dress t-shirt 12 month/year, and internet here is faster than in my european home country.

I traveled in really many countries in the world, adsl internet now is everywhere, just in the little islands it can be a problem. Trying to stay (and work) in the mainland is the solution.

Anyway, my opinion is that even a paradise can be boring if you live there 12/months year, every year of your life. My personal solution is the change. Now I'm living 6 months/year in a good developed country (Europe), and other 6 year in a tropical place, poor country. Better services on the first place (but sooo boring), better life style in the second place (and worst services).

The perfect places exists only in the fairy tales, but isn't impossible to find something similar.

    :-)

  • @peterperseo that's the best solution in my opinion. Semi-permanent living.
  • goonergooner SERLists.com
@peterperseo - Which city are you in, if you don't mind me asking?

Costa Rica looks good!! That's what i'm talking about :D But no hablo Espanol bien unfortunately

@LeeG i feel for you, sounds like a nightmare where you are mate.
