"Always Use Keywords to Find Target Sites"

Three Questions:
1) Is anybody using this option? If so, how are you using it.
2) Has anybody tested this feature and have any results to report?
3) If this is not enabled, what does it do? How can it find sites WITHOUT using keywords? (does it override other settings? e.g. analyse competitor links, or global lists)

@Sven - If this is not enabled, what does it do? How can it find sites WITHOUT using keywords? (does it override other settings? e.g. analyse competitor links, or global lists)

if you use this option, it takeseach keyword you have in your project and searches on the site if it exists. If it is present, it increases a counter until it found the number you entered on the project setting. If all keywords are searched ont he page and the found keywords is lower it will skip that site.

So this would only work on guestbooks, images, video & blog comments right? (As the others generally are new pages and wouldn't have the keyword on it?)

Sven has to correct me if I'm wrong here, but basically its the same as with "uses pages=" in the scripts.

The command in this case is "add keyword to search=".

The definition for this command is:
1 = Add a keyword from the project to the search query
0 = Never add a keyword to the search query
2 = Add just sometimes a keyword to it if it seems to be useful (default)

Do you know what the best broad category's are for the fixed links?
  • AlexRAlexR Cape Town
It's not so much the search queries to find the sites, but the fixed page's that it will check surely? I think many of these will create a new page, and thus not have a keyword on it as it is new. Just want to double check.

So if it is enabled, this would only work on guestbooks, images, video & blog comments? (Then if you have other platforms selected, it would reject these as they have a new page, and it won't find the keyword on it)
  • directories or web20's don't need to be checked for keywords as they are using your category or create a new page for you.

regarding your 2nd question: no, this option is deactivated for the other platforms and keyword search is only used on keyword-capable platforms
  • AlexRAlexR Cape Town
Thanks Ozz - all understood now. I am going to add this feature to my testing lists when I get round to it.
  • If one wanted to increase his target sites then it would make sense to always use this setting right?

Footprint + keywords (without quotes) should find more target sites (if there are several thousand keywords) than just the maximum 1000 from google with just the the footprint?
  • ronron SERLists.com

You can put in the generic footprint once or 100 times, and you get the same 1000 results because it is the exact same query.

Add a keyword, and each time you will get 1000 different results. Will there be overlap with duplicate results? Sure. But you need those keywords to get as many results as possible.

  • After reading this, I'm confused so I apologize if I bring up this thread again.

Sven said about using the keyword to search for the site (I assume the page?) to find if there's occurrences of keywords in it. He also mentioned some kind of threshold, which I can't find on the settings page.

Then Ozz chimed in about using keyword as part of the search query itself. Which one is which and how does the option works? Please shed some lights on this.
  • AlexRAlexR Cape Town
If you enable this option you can get around this issue:
  • @AlexR Still don't understand. If that solves your concern, why you need a workaround? Won't SER just use myfootprint keyword to find targets and come up with quite different and targeted results?
  • AlexRAlexR Cape Town
I need to check that if you apply this setting that it adds your keyword even to the end of platforms that don't use keywords by default. I.e. article platforms.

  • I see, so it's combination of this plus editing the engine files, if the latter is necessary.
