Does having a large ping list slow down the program much!?

I was in the process of evaluating in the logs which ones were consistently failing and which ones succeeded consistently.

The only thing is sometimes they may be down this second, and then back up a few minutes later. The other thing is once in a while some ping sites go down permanently.

Not saying it would be a noticeable speed improvement, but I think it would help. I use to trim the pings when I used BMD just to speed things up.

Just wondering what impact is if you have 1000 ping engines and every blog comment gets pinged over 100's of projects???

Think about all verified links. You build 10,000 verifieds a day as an example, and you have 40 ping sites, and cut it down to 25, you just saved 150,000 pings. It does add up. Depends on the volume you are doing.

I think this ping was not really helpful ( this is just my opinion ), i don't want to slowdown the GSA SER process for only ping the backlink, cause think about this. Is better to have a backlink that have a backlink power. Yes, we need the backlink to be found by google, but if we keep backlink the tier1, it was a matter of time google will find the link and the link will have a good link juice cause so many backlink point on it.

I remember SENuke tool, they have only around 5-10 ping list only... maybe this is the reason...

Just as a follow up, I really made things faster by doing a quick analysis of the SER logs when it was going through a pinging run. All I wanted to see was which services were successfully pinging, and which ones failed.

After sorting through the logs, I made a list of good pinging services. I have only chosen about 6 or 7 services to ping. It greatly speeds up the process to have a small number of pinging services.

I encourage everybody to do this once. I noticed an incredible number of failed pings in my logs. I think I imported a list I had stashed from some forum...not a great idea. Always test.

Yes and yes (lindexed). I do separate imports to GSA Indexer after a couple of weeks - I give lindexed a chance to get things indexed first.

Yes, but check your logs to see how successful the pings are to ping-o-matic. I dropped them as there were too many failed pings. They have strict time limits on how quickly you can ping them.

I don't ping new links. I always held the belief that Google retains a log of how/where a link was discovered in part of its evaluation process. Having a backlink profile with mostly links discovered by pings is a major footprint IMO.

@tower why is it build into blogs like WordPress then? I have never heard anything negative about pinging as long as you only ping each service once.

hey alex, its really easy to make that list. i did it in 10 minutes and really hate excel

I copied the log to excel and filtered it by "ping" (data-->filter). Then you only have the log concerning pinging. You copy that into a new table. Then you sort it by all engines. So that means you put in api.my.yahoo as a filter and see how many failed and how many succeeded (in my case all succeeded). I did that engine after engine until i had 6 which had 100% success.

I'd share the list, but i dont think it makes sense because maybe the pingers that work for me dont work for you.

These 10 Minutes were well-invested, increased my LpM by almost 15%.

thats odd i tried to find my best ping sites, and logged quite for a while to a log file, the file was huge, and couldnt find a single ping in the log file, even thou its enabled in the options

so anyone care to share the 100% sucessrate ping sites?

When SER starts pinging, It always seems to do it in one stretch. So I only start copying to log when the ping portion starts. Otherwise you have a massive log.

@oil: make sure you have posted blog comments. Ping is just starting when blog comments were verified. furthermore double check if you have activated "submit backlink URLs to blog SE" in Options -> Index.
