Page Rank Bug

edited November 2012 in Bugs
Hi @sven, IDK if you noticed but when checking PR, GSA dose not seem to be able to check the page rank of sites that are subdomains.

For example, fashionblog26.wordpress.com

Even though wordpress.com is a highPR site, GSA either show's it as 0 or ? and since I delete all my low PR links, this could be problematic for other users who dose the same.

Can you train GSA to look at the PR of the root domain?

Also, I just realized that this could be programmatic when searching for new target's to post on. If GSA can't obtain a PR from a URL with a subdomain and if the user has PR filters set, GSA will be skipping a ton of potential postable targets.
  • How do i let GSA check PR of a database? sorry for the noob question
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
Next version will have the ability to use the option to check against "Domain" "SubDomain" and "Page".

Is there any quick way to default this back to "Domain" without having to do each project singularly

Maybe I should clarify some things first.

In previous version "Use PR for domain" was getting PR of the SubDomain

In new version this was corrected to the right label and the option "Use PR of domain" which is in fact only taking the domain, was added.

    Sample URL: http://search-engine-ranker.gsa-online.de/faq.php

    < v4.68

    - "Use PR of domain" http://search-engine-ranker.gsa-online.de/

    - "Use PR of page" http://search-engine-ranker.gsa-online.de/faq.php

    >= v4.68

    - "Use PR of domain" http://gsa-online.de/

    - "Use PR of SubDomain" http://search-engine-ranker.gsa-online.de/

    - "Use PR of page" http://search-engine-ranker.gsa-online.de/faq.php

  • Thanks for the update @Sven. In the Previous version the subdomain check must have not been working properly because I would check the PR of the domain and it would give me a 0 or ? but when I check the domain manually and remove the subdomains then I would get the True PR's like 3-4 etc..
  • avomoon  not sure what you mean?
  • PR check on GSA is not very accurate
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
@rodol what makes you to write that? The PR check is as accurate as it can get as the data comes directly from google. There is nothing that can make this PR check better.

@sven i see some PR that GSA says 3 or 4 and that is actually the Domain rank not Page.

I double check with scrapebox Check Pagerank and with Searchstatus (this is a firefox plugin) and they always match but GSA sometimes match.
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
than you have not set it to check PR of page in project setting simple as that ;)
  • @sven yes i did thats the reason why i beleive its a bug in pr, because sometimes GSA is accurate in PAGE rank.
i will pm you some examples with pics.

  • @Sven @rodol is right. When I checked the PR on a few links GSA gave me a "?" but when I manually checked it was a PR0 domain.

did you manually check the PR with proxies? PR? is caused often times through banned proxies.
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de

yes to me it sounds like a issue on either...

    a) to much PR queries have been done and G. is blocking you -> PR?

    b) proxy is blocked by G. or giving inaccurate results

  • @Sven did you add the feature already?

I noticed that you added something similar to what I was talking about on version 4.68 but I don't see any new settings under very links, "PR Update"?
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
    hmm what feature?
  • @Sven

"yes to me it sounds like a issue on either...

I don't know if you're using an official G API to get the PR but last time I checked they only suggest, not require you to pass on the IP information of the requester. So maybe not passing it on will make things more accurate? Assuming this will not cause problems for SER as a whole.

  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
Im using the api that is used on all toolbars that even G. produced.
  • @Sven im talking about checking the PR for the subdomain under "verified links". I only see check domain PR and Page PR.
  • @Sven

I was thinking wrong before because that's how it works for a website that offers PR information to visitors. Of course, we're all making direct requests when we use this program.

  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
next version will let you choose between all 3 possibilities on that dialog as well.
  • @Sven Thanks for adding the sub domain feature but it dose not seem to be working?

I've tried it on one of my links: http://new.ain.az/

That's a subdomain and when I check the PR it says "?" but when I check manually it says the domain "ain.az" is a PR1 site.

I check my proxy's and they seem to work fine.

Do you know why this is happening?
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
OK you got me. This domain really was resolved wrong as it had a very short domain name and subdomain name. I fixed this now for upcoming version. I had to do this length check since sub.blahh.co.uk e.g. would get "co.uk" only if that check was not done. I fixed this now to be more accurate.
  • @sven I understand :). Thanks for looking in and fixing the issue. I seriously appreciate it dude.
  • How do we set PR to check pages on the verify screen? I only see the use of it for filtering out sites.
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
@medway not sure if I understood you but try right mouse click on the project-> show urls->verified-> PR update
  • Ok yes see that now but I meant on the right side display as verification takes place real time.
  • I know this has been an old thread, but I found the same problem here still.

For example, this is an URL GSA SER found:

    http://arklab.ucalgary.ca

The ROOT DOMAIN is PR8.  However, I set GSA SER to pull "PR from SUBDOMAIN".  And the subdomain is actually ZERO.  And I wanted it to post to PR2+

In this case, it still posted to this subdomain even though it's PR ZERO on subdomain, but on the verified list it still shows PR8.  Is there anyway to fix this so that GSA SER won't post to subdomains that have low PR that we set?
