How long does it take you to get top rank on a low competition keyword (1000-3000 searches a month)?

How long does it take you to get top ranking on a low competition keyword (one that's between 1000-3000 local monthly searches a month)? And what's your strategy to do it?

    Can't really say. My first project (just starting out) was with 2400 ES and it failed to even come to first page (health niche) despite in almost 1 and half month. And my last project has about 35K ES, 10 day old domain, and has started getting traffic, roughly around 65 uniques daily and being ranked on 1st or 2nd page for UK/Australia and some other countries and on 3rd page on Google.com. It's a gaming related niche.

    So it greatly depends on niche. Health niches are very hard to crack through.
