Do updates wipe out / change engine templates?

I want to make a few changes to some of the engine.ini files. Do these get wiped out with every update
or are they left alone for the most part or unless they are changed?

    Wiped out.

You either back up and replace the files each time or rename your edited files so they don't get over written

any changes to the original files will be overwritten.

BUT you are able to rename your modified file from "engine.ini" to "engine-mod.ini" for example. this file won't be touched by an update but you should keep an eye on all the changes Sven made to the original script and modify your custom script accordingly after updating.

you also need to activate your custom script in the engine selection window and deselect the original one.
  • gotcha, thanks guys!

Oh yes, when you see new: some engines improved

It means Svens been playing with the engine files again

Open the engines folder then get them to show by date added and you can easily spot those that have been updated.

Today, there have been a lot modified
