Does SER take up disk space?

I'm new to using SER and have been for about a month. It seems like whenever I run the program for an extended amount of time it eats up space on my hard disk. Does SER store files onto the hard disk? If so can I delete them? Not sure that its SER taking up the space but like I said it seems to only fill up when the program has been running for awhile. Any input is appreciated.

  • I'm assuming my disk space is getting eating up cause the longer the program runs the larger the files get.

It's saving URL files. I only save and write to disk the submitted and verified files in main options>advanced. Identified and Failed just adds to the bloat.
  • What amount of disk space are you talking about. Disk drives are so cheap and so large now, that it is VERY HARD for anything to really "use up" that much disk space (other than a lot of super huge files - like videos). SER in no way produces files large enough that they should be causing you problems.

I have been running SER for several months with quite a few projects and it looks like I am only using about 2-3GB of disk space for SER files.
  • Im running it on an older laptop that has an 80GB hard drive. I went from 25GB of free space down to about 10 using SER for about a month. I've had 4 projects running during this time. Should I just transfer the program to a PC with a larger HD? Or are their settings I can adjust? I checked my advanced settings under options and none of the boxes are checked. I'm not running any other programs on this computer so it is solely being used for SER, that is why i'm assuming its the program taking up the HD space.

@sr1racer - are you using dropbox and letting SER save lists into a dropbox account file? If so, there's your problem.
  • "are you using dropbox and letting SER save lists into a dropbox account file? If so, there's your problem. "

Not sure to be honest, ,maybe this sounds like a dumb question but how can I tell if thats the case?
  • I'm a real noob with this program so if I can get some advise on things to check that may be causing this problem that would be great. I really appreciate you guys trying to help me out :)

    Do you use dropbox?
  • "Do you use dropbox?"

I'm not using dropbox. I forgot to mention that i'm also running Captcha Sniper and SEO indexer along with SER.

I don't think you have a problem - other than using an old laptop to run a very aggressive and modern piece of software. :-O
  • Sounds like its time to go get another PC. What size of HD would you recommend with the new PC?

They all come with at least a 1TB, many with twin 1TB drives.

    Howdy @sr1racer

To run SER at it's optimum, you need a high end gaming PC with poor gfx :)

You need to find a deal on a PC with SSD, fast memory and fast CPU, internal or really cheap gfx :D

    ...Or build your own

But the KEY thing is your "connection"

  • you may want to install like TreeSize to see what eats up most of your disk space. maybe you just forgot a porn collection in a hidden folder. This tool will visualize those files and folders.

+1 @Ozz - just downloaded that. I was so tired of right clicking on folders.
  • Wow I just found my missing porn. Thanks @Ozz great tip
  • Im using windirstat and whats strange it doesnt show SER using that much space. But I watched my hard drive go from 21GB to 18GB in just two days and SER, CS and SEO indexer are the only programs running. Maybe my Laptop is just whacked!
  • Has anybody tried running SER from an external hard drive?
  • So I found out it's not SER eating up my HDD after all. Theirs something going on with my PC thats eating up space. Trying to figure it out now.

which CS version do you use? if its the "old" X3 and not the patched X3 version than there was a bug where its created a big page file after time. that said i'm not 100% sure if it was the X3 or the X2 version which needed the patch.
to make sure just download the latest version from their homepage and reinstall again.

however, you should monitor your page file (virtual memory) on your system anyway. this can grow up by time and you need to tweak it accordingly if its eats up too much disk space.
  • SequioaView will give you a visual representation of the space allocation on your hard drive. It makes it easy to identify large files in these situations.
  • is there a setting for the location of the saved files? I am having the same issue, I am running low on space on the OS HDD and I would like to choose to save the GSA files on a different HDD, is this possible?
  • .i had the same problem and it was log file from SER . By defoult its off but somehow it was saving logs anyway
Wooping 30 gigs in around 6 months . I did cleand that up together with saved captchas ( that you can turn off also ) and problem was solved . Space on disk now stable .
