I would much prefer to have the option for me to specify my own links that it uses from a .txt file, especially for moneysite article use. This way I know that I am not linking to a competitor or an irrelevant link that adds no value.
So what you have already done, but give us the option to load these URL's from a .txt file using a macro. For example in certain niches, the main site may not be wikipedia but a custom publication that is the authority. (This applies to the more micro niches) If I shared these super micro niche authority sites, to the GSA SER generic external URL's it won't add value to other users, and I wouldn't want it being used even in my other projects. So for example an authority site for the golf niche (e.g. golf.com) will not help users in the health niche.
So have the generic ones already added, and if anyone wants more, they can just do one scrape and you can have a large .txt file with external URL's and then just import this file into SER or access it with a macro.
This is kind of frustrating. You guys ask for an option, I add it and ask for things to improve it. Nothing. Instead, more requests. I better remove this again. I just don't see a point in working my ass off for nothing.
<So noone cares to provide some extra URLs for this option... sad
C'mon guys. Sven asked you for help and you should at least help him a bit to get a good list. As you asked for something like this you already should know some sources you like to use or not??!
This is for a city in South Africa targetting restaurants. My other lists are very similar..super niche specific. They link to external sites that add value, that are in the niche but not direct competitors.
That's why I'm not sure they will add value to a general list, but happy to share.
This is why I suggested being able to pull them in via a macro. Those that want a general list can just place general URLs in the file, but if used for a micro niche you can place your own external links.
@Sven - I don't think you should include that list I shared on next release!
It's super niche specific and will look strange in most instances and on all sites that don't target a super niche term! I used it as an example as to why it would be better if we could specify a source for the external URL's as there are too many niches. It also ensures that for those of us that want to, we can at least ensure the external URL's add value to users, rather than some random URL.
That's a great addition !! Thanks Sven !!! Can't wait to test it. It will save my time so much for my projects (I spend so much time inserting authority links in my spins..).
as wikihow uses google for inner pages for search results i thought that a direct use of google with the "site:" operator does the same. i deleted some operators (but tested that in my browser), so i suppose that caused the error.
@sven - will the feature let you specify how many external URL's you want?
Also - will the default when released be 1 URL otherwise we have to go into all projects and update?
This feature has been a long awaited for feature! All we need is the insert random image and I can remove all the cumbersome macros out of my articles. :-)
WOW! That was fast! @Sven is the most bad ass developer out there! I apologize for not contributing to the list, I'll try to find some time to scrape some URLS and post them here this weekend...
@AlexR you don't understand this really. It is %anchor_text% now and has nothing to do with the anchor text from the project. What it does now is choosing X number of random words from your article and is putting a link on it. Totally random and this word is used in the URL if it has %anchor_text% in it. As this should have no relation to your niche, it also is not using any content from it.
just tested it and yep the chosen keyword it makes into anchored links is completely random. The 2 keyword it choose in my first test was "exchange" & "written"
@sven - OK, I understand now. I will give it a try. I appreciate you adding this feature as external URL's are important. I just don't see how it adds any value to users to have random links pointing out unrelated to the article. Surely if it used either a keyword, secondary anchor, or anchor to link out on, it would be more related to the article and add some user value?

Ahhh lolz

Thanks @Ozz @AlexR ... at least something for the next release.
I have also added http://www.%anchor_text%.com as url...I think for almost any word there should exist a webpage and it makes things look better or?
@Ozz what is that last google url suppose to open? Doesn't work here.

Great @arkant1
@AlexR that variable is not related to any project defined one...it's a thing pulled from the article.
I will try it right now
