You can set up projects to index backlinks. It used to be a much larger list but it's not really an effective way of doing things anymore.

To use ser you need to know the basic concepts of SEO. If you don't know what are you doing then you have to figure it out before you'll be able to set up SER properly.

But to answer your question checkboxes are to turn on an engine. Indexing engines will give you links that are generally used to index pages.
