What's the best practice in picking the search engines to get target urls from?

Should I pick all English search engines, or pick all from a single country like US?

Is it better to keep the number under a certain number of picks?

I do a lot of different things...country, only google.com, yahoo and google, only UK. I want a variety in my projects so my verified list grows larger and larger.
