Website Uptime

I know this is not related to GSA, but I'd love to know if anyone knows of a good free program/service to monitor if a website is live or not?

I need to manage a number of catchall domains. They sometimes get closed down, and it would be easier to see if the website went down, rather than regularly testing the emails.

Any ideas???

Maybe something like pingdom, but it only handles 5 websites. I need something that can handle quite a few more.. :-)

here is a list of services
    http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/monitor-website-up-downtime-30-free-web-services-and-tools/
but I am afraid for free they would give you a limit on how many projects

but if your sites are on the same SERVER you are good with just monitoring one of them
the monitoring is just a PING to the server it can't tell you if the site has been hacked
so just knowing that the server is alive is good enough
you would need a paid service for anything more than that
  • Hey @globalgoogler - I made this little app for you:

    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11282572/Uptime Checker.exe

just put all your domains in a text file, each one on a new line and make sure you only put the domain name
    google.com
    bing.com
    ebay.com
    etc...

    do not put the http://

it will ping them for you and create a csv file for you with the results.

    Just follow the prompts.
  • wow how about that :)

@theorbital - Super thanks! Ozz recommended this tool, https://www.monitor.us/, and it's awesome and free.

Been able to handle so much...check it out...it's a vital tool in the arsenal!

I'll also send you a PM about 2 great ideas for a little program...sounds like you got skills. ;-)
  • I not really recommended it. I just googled for 1 second and thought it might suit ;)
  • hey @globalgoogler thanks, @sven is the one with skills around here i'm just trying to help out where i can.

i can modify the program to email you with a list of failed sites if you want or if monitor.us is going to work then go that way.

i'll look forward to your ideas on other programs.

@ozz - sorry, you're right you didn't recommend it, but you should! It's excellent! I have used other programs that are similar but all had issues and took ages to configure! Going to also use it to monitor my web2.0 platforms to ensure they are active all the time. No point building links to them if they get closed or go down/banned!
  • Personally I love Pingdom and it's very very accurate as compared to other companies.
