SEMRush Alternative

I like the way that SEMRush shows keywords that I'd might not have realised or aimed at - any other tools out there. I don't see SRush being worth the money as I barely use it but when I do, I want to use it more than 10 times in a day.

Free preferably.

Can't help you with a free one but AHRefs has similar functionality but if I remember correctly its more expensive than SEMRush :(.

I've looked myself and haven't found anything remotely comparable that's free. Or even pay as you go, which is a shame because I have the exact issue you described with usage. In the past I've just bought a 1 month subscription once I've built up enough need for it.

Like @shaun said, Ahrefs has the same keyword data and costs basically the same, plus you get the far superior link data as well.
  • Thanks guys. I've tried dodgy shared licenses and it's not been great so might just bite the bullet and buy ahrefs.

  • No worries, and yeah, even the better sharing services end up being terrible to use because of how vigilant these companies are about closing shared accounts.

I thought Ahrefs was significantly overpriced for a long time, but now I think the value is pretty solid. They've got some really nice clickstream data as well:

I always thought the same about AHRefs price @redrays I have been leeching a friends subscription the past few weeks and the more I use it the more I love it. Planning on picking up my own subscription on the 1st December, even if it's just for a month to get a bunch of keywords ready for scaling and to try find some link opportunities for each keyword.
  • @shaun - I think you'll find it a much better way of starting off your keyword research as opposed to using the keyword planner :)

I'm kind of in awe of how much Ahrefs has improved - they've totally replaced the need not only for obvious garbage products like Moz but even tools that were extremely useful and innovative like Majestic and SEMRush.

Not sure if its new but I am really impressed with the link intersect tool they have. I was talking to my mate on Skype about my plans to find manual link targets with AHRefs and he pointed out I would be wasting so much time doing it the way I planned.

With the link intersect tool you just add 10 of your competitors domains, add your own at the bottom and click the button and you have a list of targets to process that link to any of the competitors domains you added to the tool but don't currently link to your domain.

Looking forward to picking it up tomorrow, going to do a bunch of keyword research and then when I am settled on my keywords look for manual link targets and bundle them up in niche groups ready for scaling :).
  • Hmm maybe Ahrefs really is the tool i need. I've not used it since they changed it and then changed so there are no free accounts.

AHRefs have massively raised the previous bar they set this past year. Since I last had my subscription with them there seems to be a bunch of new tools and features to save you time or present the data better, perhaps I just missed them in the past though :P.

Picked AHRefs up this morning, the link intersect tool is not included in the base package so my main focus for this month will just be as much keyword research with it as possible ready for scaling.

Its only been a few weeks since I was using my mate's account but it just seems slower today for some reason, still much quicker than doing it manually though :).
  • Urgh, I need the $399pm one. Even £137pm is a rip off considering. I've decided I am not going to invest in it. There is 0 roi for me.
  • @shaun - you can recreate the tool with a little scripting. I think you told me that you don't code, but you should be able to hire some freelancer to do it.

@JudderMan - I don't see many substantial differences between the Standard and Advanced plans. What do you need to do exactly that isn't covered?
  • The amount. I was gonna a use it for client stuff.
