We wrote a beginner's guide to GSA Search Engine Ranker for people who are new to the software, or who are still deciding if it is the right tool for them. It explains in plain English what GSA SER does: it finds target sites, registers accounts, posts your links and verifies them, 24 hours a day. It walks through the loop every project runs (find targets, identify, register, post, verify), the difference between submitted and verified links, and the parts GSA SER needs to run well: proxies, captcha solving, email accounts, content and a machine that stays on. It also covers the link types it can build, how to set up tiers with the option to use the verified URLs of another project, who the software suits, and a short checklist for getting started. We have used GSA SER every day since December 2012, so the guide is based on real use.

@Sven, if you think it is useful for new users, could you please include it in the tutorial section? Thank you.

I gave this a read to see if there have been any changes since I last played with these products and I honestly it would answer the majority of questions that any new users would have.
To be honest I am surprised you two never teamed up and went the cloud subscription route with GSA. A lot of people mess up because they don't want to put the 30 mins it takes to set things up properly (yes, people are that lazy). I still think today that such a service would attract recurring subscriptions.
