Should we use a proxy to access email accounts in SER?

I've used private proxies for this.

If I'm using a catch-all, whether from a service, or my own,  it seems sensible that a proxy would not be needed. Is this right?

But...if using many, many other email accounts  from  all over the place, you don't want you IP flagged, I would guess, and then  a proxy would be best.

What considerations am I forgetting?  Thanks!

I would not use proxies if not required.

Sven, would proxies be needed in the second example above? Thanks.

Not really...just use proxies only if you think your network itself forbids accessing it.

Sven, I just I read of the new development in the SER Version History.

By using proxy_skip_domain, will that also affect when checking emails on those domains listed in the file? Thanks, kindly!~

no, just parsing the website, not for pop3 protocol.
