The way i understand GSA ser, is that you have 3 options from where to pull links to post to, as follow:
You have the Search engine option
You have the Global Site list
You have the Target Url per project option.

I think most people select both the Global site list as well as the search engine option, and a few people also then add to the Target url list.

What i dont understand is if all 3 are used in what priority are they used, and why not let the user decide.
Would it not be practical to have some setting in options where one can indicate a priority which of the 3 options to use.
Maybe someone want to fist use the Target urls, and then when used up automatically start using global sitelist and then last use the search engine option.

I understand that on the moment i can manually select which option to run and which not, but this means i will have to babysite it. If there was some set and forget priority setting it will be nice.

Just a thought

  • +1 this would be ideal for me.

    I believe the priority is:

    1) URLs imported directly into projects
    2) Global sitelists
    3) Search engines.

Would be nice to control that though.

gooner no i dont think that is the priority it runs in. The reason i say so is if i add tarhet urls to a project it usually say it will start when everything else is done.

@royalmice, actually it says it will start when the current target lists is empty (or words to that effect).

What that means is that it will add those target URLs to the end of the target URL list. But if the target URL list is empty they will run right away of course.

But what happens when the target urls were only added later on and the project has been running for awhile. Will it then first complete the search engines and global site list and then start with the target urls

Well in that case there will be some URL's in the target list. Either URL's SER scraped or some that it got from the sitelists. But this is only usually a few hundred URLs max per project.

So it will run those then start on the imported list. Or you can just "delete target url cache" and then import

Maybe @sven can confirm it but i am 99% sure that's how it works.

I have projects that has been running for months, and when i check, the target urls left, it is all still there. Maybe it is because my global site list is over 6.6 million urls or because i have several 1000 KW in the list, and then the search engine is also enables, this means it never gets to the Target urls. That is why i think it would be good to have a option to prioritise what gets used when

But whatever option you choose, URL's SER finds are always imported in the target URL file.

From Verified list into target URL file.
From search engines into target URL file.

So you may always see some URL's in target URL file but it's not the same URLs every time you look there.

Anyway, i agree the option would be nice.

    priority is the following:

    1. imported urls

    2. search engines

    3. site lists

    4. other methods....

whenever there can be treated more threads with tasks, it tries to get new target urls.
