is there any poitn creating more than one batch of tier 1

ie why not just create the one of a few hundred links then just use the remianing resources on reloads of tier 2s to the tier 1.

Don't have an answer for this but would love hearing one, too. Probably has to do with link velocity?

This strategy is pretty similar to what I see some people successfully do, they slap up 5 301's (and nothing else as their T1) and blast away at those and get results. Haven't tried it yet so not sure if true or not.

  • @PeterParker - you could build links the way that you are suggesting, but you will end up with negative link velocity at some point, which, as we all know is not great for long term rankings. You could, however, counter this by having a seperate project dripping links to the money site, but it's still not ideal.

The reason for this is as time goes by you will be investing lots of resources building links to properties that you don't own, which if deleted by the webmasters, or the domain gets deindexed by the spam algo/s will see your rankings suddenly plummet. - The more stable the tier 1 property, the heavier you would most likely want to tier it.

Better to be constantly building tier1 properties to spread the risk IMO.

@2take2 ok that makes sense in terms of not putting all your eggs in one basket, but what do you mean about negative link velocity, didnt quite get that part- not sure how it is related to this? i was building less t1s precisely to avoid negative link velocity to my money site since you suggested too many t1 could have been the cause of my woes :D. Added to that line of thinking, at what point do you say 'this pyramid is complete'- ie all tiers and start one a new one?

Hi @Peterparker - Negative link velocity is essentially losing links faster than you are building them, so if you go out and build some links and then stop (regardless of the quantity) that's what you will end up with, as invariably you will lose some somewhere. Ideally you want to be always building more links than you are losing.

It is also better to have a constant stream of links being built to your site (although IMO it's better to mix it up a bit with the numbers), as it keeps the spiders coming back and makes your site seem more relevant to google.

IIRC the reason that I suggested that building too many links to your sites was a problem wasn't to do with negative link velocity, but more to do with my theory of possibly tripping spam filters for prolonged excessive link building.

Sorry if I wasn't clear before.

Oh, and a pyramid is "done" when it's "done" lol

Seriously though, I normally build about 500 contextual tier 1s, 5000 conxtetual tier 2s and about  50 - 100,000 links as a spam tier pointing to the tier 2 (in the space of a month or so). However, the size of your pyramids really depends on your available resources, and how stable your contextual properties are.

    Hope it helps.
  • @2take2 I see, I think i just misunderstood the term negative link velocity then as i presumed that is what your previous comment meant as well. as i thought it just meant any negative reaction you get from the velocity of your links- in the first case building too many to my money site.
  • @2take2 just saw you edit on your tier ratios, that is useful thanks. pretty much what id been doing- 500 t1 contextual and stop, t2 contextual again but dont stop, then t3 'kitchen sink' all platforms no stop. how long do you find before these 'get up steam' because i only just started doing it this way a cpl weeks ago and am getting impatient to see the fruits of their labour. :)
  • It really depends on the niche/competition and your execution of the process, but I would normally expect to start seeing at least some movement after a couple of weeks to a month, but patience is a virtue, especially with SEO.

Probably best to just sit back, relax, and keep building more sites whilst you're waiting for results, that way you'll never get bored.
