Importing someone's verified list, mostly unknowns?

How can this be? I am importing >sort>identify someone's verified list. And yet 2/3rds are unknown.
Can someone explain this

    could be a proxy issue

    The verified urls could have been removed, sites could have closed or gone down, proxy issues, hosting issues, the verified url may not actually have any of the text specified in the 'page must have' section of any engines, etc

    when you do the imports, do you uncheck so you dont use proxies?
