Wrong html format

I just saw one of the links in a forum profile. There wasn't a link in the bio (there was a www (homepage) link) because this was shown:

Got nothing to tell about myself I think.

my web site <a >click the following post</a>

I'm guessing it's the incomplete html code above that is causing the link not to show properly. What would be the cause of this?

Can be the site that doesn't allow html and strips it off or your content itself that you defined. What engine is that?
