I have no idea, maybe wait for @sven to confirm that for you.

How is your hosts file messed up exactly?

Are you using CB with SER? If you're using it with SER then you don't need to emulate a captcha service which means your hosts file doesn't need to be modified by CB.  (@sven correct me if I'm wrong)

If you were emulating a service such as decaptcher you might see some lines like this:

    # -= GSA Captcha Breaker =-
    127.0.0.1 api.decaptcher.com
    127.0.0.1 api.de-captcher.com
    127.0.0.1 api.de-captcher.info
    127.0.0.1 api.decaptcher-reloaded.com
    127.0.0.1 poster.decaptcher.com
    127.0.0.1 poster.de-captcher.com
    127.0.0.1 poster.de-captcher.info
    127.0.0.1 poster.decaptcher-reloaded.com
    127.0.0.1 fasttypers.org
    127.0.0.1 www.fasttypers.org
    127.0.0.1 goodearner.info
    127.0.0.1 www.goodearner.info
    # -= GSA Captcha Breaker =-

You can delete everything between the "# -= GSA Captcha Breaker =-" if you want to "reset" things but those lines should be deleted automatically when CB is turned off. If they are there then just delete them.

If you're running it directly with SER then make sure you don't emulate any services in CB. Just select CB as your captcha option in SER and they should communicate automatically.
