edited August 2013 in Need Help
I noticed that in the recent version, @sven has added the ability to add a feed URL, this is great news but I need a little guidance on what it does and best way to use it.

  • I tried editing an existing project and add the feed url to my list of existing urls, but it seems to overwrite (remove all the other urls), so it seems that it should be ran on it's own as a project (tier) and not together with other URLs
  • When i add the feed, it show as follow: #file[mysite.com/feed/] What is the #file part it adds to the front ?
  • What platforms should I \ could I be using in conjunction with the feed, and do i need to add any additional content or will it pull it from the feed ?

Appreciate your guidance and help in better understanding the use of the new feed option.

Thanks

I'd be interested to find out more about this too!

The #file is a XR macro that is used here. It however behaves differently if it finds out the URL is a RSS feed. In that case it parses for
...
or
...
and takes out the
and
tag information to build a dynamic URL/Anchor list to be used.

As the RSS feed usually only holds a couple of the latest of links you must see this as a dynamic thing. It will stop building links to the URLs once they are no longer included in the feed.

You can use this method for every engine (maybe not for directories as they usually expect a root-URL).

@Sven Thanks for explaining but i am sorry i still dont understand it.

Lets say i want to do a Social bookmarking campaign using the Feed Url
    I add the Feedurl
I select social bookmark as platform
Do i not still have to fill in the following: Keyword, Anchor Text, Description 250 and 450 ???
Does it not pull the tittle and anchor and description from the feed

Ok, i understand about dynamic thing and it will only promote so long as it is on the Feed -- but what i dont understand is the content and what is pulled from feed and what i need to input.

My brain is a bit dead today, so i will take a closer look and play with this feed option, little later again.

    Thanks

The only content it pulls from it is the URL and the Anchor text. The rest of the project content has to be defined by you.

But if i have to add descriptions and keywords, how would i know which feed entry it is for. For example a WP feed have by default 10 feed items and can be adjusted to 15 items which i think is the max... if the feed pulls the anchor text why i still need to specify anchor text and keywords in the content, this will \ could result in non relevant description titles and anchor.

I just cant get my head around this.

When I was still using Ultimate Demon it use to have a option where you specified the feed and it will automatically pull and fill the feed info such as urls, titles, keyword and description. I was thinking the new feature in GSA SER is something similar but it looks like i was wrong.

Also as you mentioned it is a dynamic thing, which mean the feed content will change everytime i make a post on my blog.
So lets say i have a global travel site, every post could be for a different city and i could have up to 20 post in a day, how would i know which keywords, descriptions etc to use in GSA if i use the feed option. I Can understand basic profile info to be provided but i dont see how one can pre specify the content for the feed.

Maybe I just dont get it.

Well noone said anything else will be defined / overwritten when using the feed url. You still have to define the content yourself (maybe with macros). Like

    Description: #file[http://myserver.com/get_description.php?url=%url%]

I get the error message "not a valid url" when I try to add the feed from my site.
Update: I have to delete all the other urls to use the feed.
