How to link with an image?

Hi,

I am trying to de-penguinize a website which uses 100% exact anchor texts.  It has about 300 links and all of the links are exact keywords (about 10 keywords used) .. I know i have to add more anchors to diversify and also increase raw URLs however; I would also like to link with images to the site so that there is no anchor.  In ahrefs this shows as follows:  <a>noText<⁄a>

Is using W2.0 the only way to accomplish this?  Can I perhaps use a smiley face and link it from other platforms?

I am a bit confused as far as accomplishing this with GSA.  Any ideas/suggestions are welcomed!
