Identified and unknown count don't match

I imported a list of 5000 domains into GSA using "Import URLs (identify and sort in)" option in Options-Advanced-Tools. Out of 5000 only 2 were identified and 2790 marked as unknown. 

I was wondering what happened to the remaining domains. Is the status logged anywhere @Sven?

    I ran a custom script to de-dup. So I am sure there are no duplicates.

    I also ran a 100K domain list (only the root domain URL - not inner pages) that I had from another project. I only got 17 identified and mostly whois/statistics type. Is each URL fetched to identify the platform?

    Yes each URL is downloaded once to be checked. If you see a lot whois sites, it probably means that this URL is redirecting to some search engine from your ISP with the domain in the new URL. That is seen as a Whois/Stats site. So check if your URL list is good (sites still alive).
