converting submitted links

When a project gets to where it's about 1500 or higher submitted, I stop it and set it to verify only to bring that number down. But, I'm not seeing many of those convert to verified links. Is it still a good plan to do this or just leave the submitted links alone?

I have a habit of doing that too. I would think it's best to let the software run its cycles and do the verification process on its own, but that's just a guess.
