1Dedicated Server vs Multiple VPS

I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts/stats on what is  more effective 1 Dedicated Server vs Multiple VPS's (mb spread across diff providers)?

Recently I tried out a Dedi from IPStrada @ 447/mo (offer on xrumer forum) , to run xrumer/gscraper/gsa for guestbook/comment spam , and love the speed but am thinking I can run 4 of PowerUpHosting's top VPS package for the same cost, sure that's additional cost for licensed for Gscraper/GSA/CB, but those are one time fees, and additionaly if one VPS crashes and needs to be reset you dont need to wait, can just move onto to your other machines while waiting.

Any thoughts?
