What Do Paused Projects DO?

Exactly the  question. I know what they DON'T do. But...
Do paused projects do ANYthing? It seems like they do some things...??
If a project hits the threshold for pausing user has set (P) and threads are still open, those will finish, at the least....
Anything else?

    If a project is on pause, it still does (re)verification and search engine parsing for new targets (just does not submit there).
