New User - Need help running GSA SER on AWS

edited January 13 in Need Help
Hi everyone,

I am new here and I have just purchased GSA Search Engine Ranker.

I would like to ask if anyone here has experience setting up and running GSA SER on Amazon Web Services (AWS) without issues. I am especially interested in knowing the recommended setup, such as cloud type, Windows version, and any important settings inside GSA SER to keep it running smoothly.

If you have successfully used GSA SER on AWS, I would really appreciate it if you could share your experience or step by step guidance. Any tips to avoid common problems would also be very helpful.

    Hi are you Isaac ?

    We spoke earlier.

Yes, you can run GSA Search Engine Ranker on AWS because AWS can give you a normal Windows VPS (EC2). You connect to it with Remote Desktop (RDP) and install SER the same way you would on any Windows server. There is no special “AWS version” of SER or special settings inside AWS that magically makes it run better.

But honestly, AWS is usually not a great place for SEO automation tools like SER, and here’s why.

First, AWS is strict when it comes to abuse complaints and “suspicious traffic.” Tools like SER can easily trigger complaints from websites, trigger automated abuse detection, or cause reports even if you think you are being careful. If AWS gets complaints, they can investigate and restrict your instance, or in some cases even take action on your account. This is a real risk with this kind of tool on AWS.

Second, AWS IP addresses are datacenter/cloud IPs and they are blocked more often. Many websites can detect AWS traffic and treat it as higher risk, so you often see more blocks, more CAPTCHAs, and a lower success rate. So even if SER runs fine, your results can be worse compared to a normal VPS provider.

Third, email/verification issues are common. AWS commonly restricts outbound SMTP (especially port 25), which can create problems if your workflow relies on email verification. You can work around it with external email services, but it’s extra hassle.

Fourth, costs can add up fast on AWS. Always-on Windows instances plus storage performance and bandwidth charges can become more expensive than a normal Windows VPS pretty quickly.

So the short answer is: yes it can run, but AWS is not usually the smoothest or safest option for this kind of SEO tool. If you only want to do light, controlled testing (for example on your own sites), AWS can be okay. If you want to run SER heavily and long-term, a normal Windows VPS provider is usually cheaper, easier, and less risky.

Hello royalmice, no.. I'm not Issac,

Thank you so much for sharing all the helpful information so far. Just to clarify my current setup.. I’ve only ever run GSA SER on a Windows VM using Proxmox, hosted on my local network and I used residential VPN/proxy software for outbound connections. I’d like to share that I now have AWS free credits and would like to use them to run GSA SER on AWS before they expire.

I’m still looking for a suitable captcha solver to use with GSA SER. If anyone know of a free, trial, or limited-use captcha solving service or API that offers:

    * A free trial or small free quota?
    * Pay-as-you-go with very low initial cost?
    * Or even a self-hosted/open-source option that works reasonably well for basic captchas?

I only need it for short-term testing, so even a $1–$5 trial credit would be super helpful. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

The only pay-as-you-go captcha solver i have ever used was https://2captcha.com/ , but that was like 10 years ago, before things like Xevil existed.

I don't think anything free would be worth pursuing
  • I’ve actually considered buying XEvil before because I heard it can solve reCAPTCHA, Turnstile, and hCaptcha quite effectively. But I also heard rumors that it’s extremely resource-intensive like, it needs a high-end CPU and even RAM to run smoothly.

Is that really true? Or is it manageable on a standard cloud instance (e.g., AWS t3.medium or similar)? I’m trying to keep costs low while testing, so any insight on XEvil’s actual system requirements would be super helpful.

Yep, it's true. CapMonster software is second alternative which is less resource hungry but also not effective as XEvil but still good enough. For XEvil you need 32GB of ram memory minimum and powerful CPU otherwise you will fail to solve recaptcha I had to bother for one month until I figured out that it was no problem with proxies and Xevil and other stuff but just my VPS was weak and couldn't handle Xevil resources.

This was the plan i used from Greencloudvps

    WinPromo-440 Available
    • 16GB RAM
    • 8 cores CPU
    • 120GB SSD Hard drive
    • Unmetered @ 10Gbps port Bandwidth
    • Windows Server 2019/2022 Licensed OS
    • Hyper-V - The best virtualization for Windows OS Virtualization
    • No refund/Money back on this plan Note

and now switched to Hetzner https://www.hetzner.com/dedicated-rootserver/ax41-nvme/configurator#/ and no problems at all.
