SEO Contest 2025 – Anyone Using GSA SER to Compete for "Keywordkönig"?

Hey everyone,

I came across the current SEO Contest 2025, where participants compete to rank on Google for a completely made-up term: Keywordkönig (basically "keyword king" in German).

Since the keyword has no prior history, no search volume, and no domain authority tied to it, it’s actually a great environment to test strategies without legacy interference — and that got me wondering:

Has anyone here used GSA SER in a contest like this?

I’m especially curious about:

  • Which platforms/engines are working well for German-language content these days

  • Whether tiered link building still holds up in 2025

  • If contests like this are actually useful for client visibility or more for testing and fun

One example I found impressive is this entry from the agency Semtrix: https://www.semtrix.de/keywordkoenig/
It’s very creative, almost gamified, with solid on-page work behind the scenes.

Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences with SEO contests — or how you'd approach one using GSA tools.

  • Nice marketing idea to push a keyword and thus the agency running the 'competition'.

AI overviews are showing their impact on SEO agencies.

I would use GSA Keyword Research for it as well, if you plan to participate. Because with this underrated product, you quickly see how to optimise your website to outperform competitors.

I think it was the late 2000s the last time I entered one of these SEO contests, the 'redscowl bluesingsky' one. Now I just use them as reverse engineering targets :)
