Build site wide backlinks or to specific pages/keywords?

Hello,

I am still new to GSA SER and I have been building links to my sites for about a little more than a month now. I have been using the 3 tier method when building links.

I have a few online shops and I have been building links to product categories and product pages. I wonder if this is the best way to build backlinks. I feel this can look a bit unatural because the backlinks are pointing to so many pages quite evenly across the entire site.

I wonder if it is better to select keywords I want to target and focus on them instead. Do you guys also build your backlinks pointing to the pages site wide or you purposely point the backlinks to only pages you want to rank and leave some without links, and do so by selecting pages related to your target keywords?

My original plan is to
Stage 1: Build links pointing to all categories and pages under them (picked randomly) and then
Stage 2: Select pages that are related to my target keywords to build more links to them.

Is this a good way to do it? or am I wasting time here?

    Hello,

It's generally more effective to build backlinks to specific pages or keywords you want to rank higher, rather than site wide links. Targeting relevant pages with focused keywords helps search engines understand your site's relevance and authority better. Consider a strategic approach like your original plan, emphasizing quality over quantity.

Thanks Andrewrice, I do give each of my URL specific anchors when building site wide backlinks with about 20% generic anchors. I was worrying that things may not look natural. Thanks for the confirmation, I will continue to build backlinks pointing to pages across the site and then build more specifically for pages and keywords I want to target. GSA SER is so powerful, I was worrying about not doing enough before SER, now I am worrying about doing too much too unaturally with SER... o:)

You are not wasting time. It sounds like you are on the right track. I would however suggest two things:

1.) In case you are not already, thrown in some domain based anchors and naked url anchors.
2.) Generic anchors of 20% seems low. I would increase it.
3.) In case you are not already (I'm sure you are, but no harm in mentioning it), add variations of your keywords. If 80% of your anchors all say 'buy widgets' for example, your SEO campaign results will bear little fruit, if any.

Good luck. Hope to hear a success story from you in the next three months.

P.s. Also consider the type of links you are building and the domains you are building from. As Andrew correctly said focus on quality.

    Hello Momo,
Thanks for the affirmation. Everytime I find a way I also find new questions and your affirmation is much appreciated.

1.) In case you are not already, thrown in some domain based anchors and naked url anchors.
2.) Generic anchors of 20% seems low. I would increase it.

I havent done that. Will do that now. What percentage you set for generic anchors? I was setting it to 40% or more before but lowered it to 20%. What really is ideal % for generic anchors? I read that some say more than 60%, some even say about 80%. Perhaps 40% is good?

3.) In case you are not already (I'm sure you are, but no harm in mentioning it), add variations of your keywords. If 80% of your anchors all say 'buy widgets' for example, your SEO campaign results will bear little fruit, if any.
Yes, I set anchors for each URL one by one for links pointing to my money site but not so much for lower tier projects. Does that sound ok?

Good luck. Hope to hear a success story from you in the next three months.
I was wondering how long I should continue what I am doing now before making major changes again but you answered my question right there. I will do an evaluation near November. Thanks.

You pointed out something important again. To be honest I dont know all the engine types available in SER.. Currently I am using just the engines below:

    for Top Tier Projects:
    Article
    Microblog
    Social bookmark
    Social network
    Web2.0

with PR set to min 1
    OBL less than 100

    for Lower Tier Projects:
    Article
    Microblog
    Social bookmark
    Social network
    Web2.0
    Forum
    Exploit
    Directory
    Blog Comment
    Guestbook
    wiki

I am not sure that other engines such as indexer, pingback, referrer, trackback, url shortener do so I am not using them now. What do you susggest I remove or add to my projects? I have been going back and forth changing settings for my projects it's killing me lol
