What is the purpose of redirects?

Hi guys

Just firing up SER after a long time away. Seems like parasite SEO is back in fashion. Most of the links created by SER on our test run look like this:

http://elibrary.suza.ac.tz/cgi-bin/koha/tracklinks.pl?uri=http://ufc235.com

This redirects to my target site. It's making 301s, 302s, 303s.

Is this really useful? Is there a way to turn it off?

    If it's do follow, then yes, it can be useful. It's another referring domain that your money site gets a backlink from. Some of these redirect links are from sites with massive DA including google and you tutbe which are DA100 sites.

    To turn it off, deselect the appropriate engine. I suspect it's under "url shortener" but could also be under "indexer" too.
