Dot Info (.info) Sites And Ranking

Years ago, I asked about dot info sites.
I was told, can't recall by whom, that .info sites take longer to show up in SERPs than other TLD domains, and fewer pages get indexed.
I get that. But now I am wondering if a dot info site vs. a .com site would rank lower in SERPs, comparatively. Different question.
I have a site I am thinking of changing over. I actually have a dot com that's now two years associated with the site, wondering if I should just move (at least) the root page.
Will I suffer any loss of ranking? Will the new page instantly appear where the old one was? Will I gain ANYthing?
Thanks...
