When someone says dedup, they're just saying "remove duplicates".
By default, when you use the "remove duplicates" feature, its automatically removing duplicates from the destination folder you choose and it continues to monitor that folder and remove duplicates. If you prefer to have the deduped files saved to a different folder instead of the original destination, that's what the option is for.
Let me know if you don't understand and I will try to explain it different.
