Do Reviews Count in SEO Rankings?

I have been seeing a lot of discussion lately about the value or reviews regarding page rankings. It seems like there is something to it, but not across the board. Only certain review services have been deemed acceptable by G? The rest of the services don't really matter. I would be interested in learning more on this topic and which specific review services actually have value for SEO. Anyone have knowledge on this topic? 

Of course if this is true, then the next questions is of course, how do we automate the review process to our advantage.

I think it depends of your niche. If there is really a big "review" website in your niche, Google should take care of the reviews on this website. Else I think it will be way complicated for them to list all the "review" website and know if they are trustable or now.
