I have done both extensivly, until recently I used SER as my only source of links so it was better for me to take the time and effort to scrape my own contextual lists. My new method has other stuff included with SER still on all tiers but the main focus on T2 and T3 so I decided it was no longer worth my time to scrape my own lists and went with Looplines service.
I have made a few suggestions to him on how to improve it a little and they seem to have been taken on board but all in all i'm happy with the service and it does what I need.
Theres no such thing as a clean SER list, even if you scrape it 100% yourself there is a massive chance it has porn and pharma on it, there is only a finite number of domains SER can post to.
I used to process millions of links per day, theres guys out there doing it on a bigger scale. So say you scrape your own list, the chances of you being the only guy using that domain is non existant in my oppinion. So there are other people using it too for their own niches, then you have to factor in the guys using link extraction and they will find it too and use it for their niches so somewhere on the domains on your list there is a high chance of there being porn links.
