relations are lost when bulk renamed

Hi @Sven,

When I create a new project by restoring a template (backup), I rename them in bulk by adding a prefix.

However, after doing so all relations (verified links from what tiers to build links to) are lost, and split into two different groups.

Is this a (known) bug, or should I change my workflow?

I think that this has something to do with SER using the name of a project for its tracking rather than a unique identifier like a project number that the user is unable to edit.

It would be nice to have it remember the paths though rather than having to edit them one at a time.

yup, think so too. And yes, it would be very user-friendly. Let's wait @sven his thoughts on this.

    >> I guess a thorough "excel alike" implementation would be quite a change. But maybe the "bulk rename" (prefix/postfix) function can rename the relations too, accordingly.?

    > to reproduce, create a multi tiered campaign, select all tiers including group name, modify, rename, prefix. You will see that tier 2 and above are renamed, but still in under old group(name) and target tier is lost.

sorry it's hard for me to follow what is wrong.
On a rename it also changes the tier projects itself to point to the newly named project. Do you think there is a bug? Maybe make a screeshot a offer a exact description hot to reproduce it.
  • Ok, this is a campaign restored from a backup template. Tier2's link to all Tier1's. Tier3 links to both Tier2's
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ucc85yzrurm0ct4/Screenshot 2016-10-12 20.28.16.png?dl=0

I then select the group and all it's Tiers: Modify > Rename > Add Prefix > "Madrid" and get:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/keydoxb2zihnbq4/Screenshot 2016-10-12 20.30.19.png?dl=0

You see that Tiers 2&3 remain in the Group GMI. I have to manually move them to their group "Madrid GMI" & Also re-assign the linkwheel so that: Tier2's link to all Tier1's. Tier3 links to both Tier2's
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
that tiers use more than one main project?
  • Tier1 link to either a RSS or a list of Urls, all different targets.
Tier 2 link to all 4 tier 1
Tier 3 links to both tier 2

They don't link to any tiers outside the campaign.

ok I see what the issue is now...will be fixed in next update

    Hi @Sven

I checked, and with the new version all tiers stay in the same group, but relations are still to old tier names, check:

I still have the uncheck, check, select the tiers with the new names.. So that it is:

ok got that now as well...fixing for next update
  • Orrrrrrrrrrr just name them correctly from the start :P

  • Thanks @judderman but when duplicating or restoring from a backup with the purpose of re-using other setups you must rename them)
  • @Sven, I was just triggered to update, but the problem persist? OR this was an update before the fix?
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
    was before the fix
  • Hi @sven

Newest update also didn't resolve the issue, and now everytime I do it manually and click OK, GSA hangs.

I attach my template so you can easily reproduce:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/3bnr2b63n606hqu/TEMPLATE GMI - Copy.ser?dl=0

    steps:
    1) restore the .ser file
    2) expand and select group+tiers
    3) modife>rename>prefix
    4) check tier2 & tier3 references (lost), when manually re-assign, click OK (gsa hangs)
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
    ok got it now (hopefully)

will fix it on next update (done already but fear to update) ;)
  • hahaha i am so excited !!! lol
  • Hi @sven

    the problem is "partially" fixed..

    1) Tier 2 does point to all Tier 1 projects after renaming, however, the window hangs > goes to the background > after clicking GSA SER in the taskbar it come to the front again and works... not sure what this means..

    2) Tier 3 does NOT point to Tier 2 projects..

    Here a video: http://screencast.com/t/1faapvTq1

PS. what means: "added a lot new disposible email accounts" never heard of this?
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
    1) can happen if the project loads a longer time....then windows itself pulls windows in back when opened modal...not much i can do about it
    2) are you sure it's not some error from previous renames? Because I can no longer reproduce this....renaming all up/down and no error so far on my end.
  • OOPS. you are right, had to fix up my template. must have broken somewhere during all the testing.

    Great, it works ))

is it an idea/already possiible to show target links/tiers in the mouseover:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/z1sqz6nswpkoi9w/Screenshot 2016-10-18 12.06.32.png?dl=0
    ?
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
    added for next update
  • RSS url is not shown. it says: "<macro>"

And also multiple URLs (entered via Edit All) are not shown (only first one)

This is a very helpful checkup, thanks.

PS. where can i read more about "disposable emails" and how to use them with SER?
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
I just can not show all urls there. some ppl have like 1000's here.
  • understand. Maybe limit to the first 20? and the RSS can only be 1, so it can be displayed ))

Instead of adding 1000's people should make also RSS lol
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
naw, I would like to keep it as it is.
  • what is the reason the RSS url cannot show?
  • SvenSven www.GSA-Online.de
yea well added macro display now.
  • cheers.

when I use the edit all, I will just put a copy in the notes. )
