Are proxies necessary when building links only (not scraping)?

If I am only building links and not doing any scraping for sites, are proxies necessary?

I think if I am only building links then I am not searching for anything on Google and should therefore not need proxies.

Any thoughts/comments?

Well proxies will protect you from getting angry emails in case you use spammy engines. But beside that fact you do not need proxies.
