Document Sharing sites - any value?

Hi,
Just wondering what others think of the value of the document sharing sites such as slideshare, 4shared etc. Some of these sites appear to have a link but when inspecting the code there is usually some clever way of redirecting it. So not sure if the search engines are finding the link. Some of these will also just open the destination site within their own webpage.
Am currently going through all FCS networker sites trying to determine which are worth building links to - several of their sites are these document sharing types.
Anyone have success with these or are they a waste of time?
