Will emails be marked as "read" in gmail if GSA has verified them?

I am running a social network + article directory campaign. My numbers are:

3,200 Submitted
273 Verified

I logged into the gmail account and all of the emails are still unread. There's countless pages of "unread" emails. I'm using pop.googlemail.com, should they be showing up as "read" and do my submitted/verified numbers look fairly normal or is something wrong with email activation?

    The emails aren't going to be shown as "read" since its reading them via pop 3. 

    If you aren't using a verified link list, your submitted/verified numbers are probably ok.
