Difference between older versions and newer versions is increased timeout settings on email verification minus a hella lot of updates. Sven lowered these timeout settings at some point. There's also a bug with the latest version 9.45 which isn't removing links after they timeout on email verification. I've notified Sven so it should be fixed soon.
I'm running fine with v9.44 and increased timeouts on email verification on the contextual engines I use.
FilipMKD A lot of things change such as site structure and SER is updated to keep up with the changes. I recon you update immediately as you have a lot of catching to do here!
