Does website name and extension matters when trying to rank it to a certain word?

For example..

Key word:  Widget 

Domain:  Widget.com  , Widget.us , Widget.org , etc..

    Yes it does. If that keyword is within the domain it's a good sign for search engines. The TLD (top level domain) also matters. If you have some cheap one like .info or a .edu or even a .gov then it's a better ranking.
