Help!! How do i add %random_url% in Kontent Machine

edited January 2013 in Need Help
Hi

Please can someone help?!? This is driving me mad.

I am trialling knotent machine. I want to build a folder of a couple of thousand unspun articles so i can direct GSA to draw one article from the folder. I understand how GSA does this.

What I am stuck on is how to get the %random_url% %random_anchor_text%    token into the Kontent machine produced article. My thinking is that if i insert %random_url% %random_anchor_text%  token then when the article is pulled into gsa it will replace this with one of the urls i set up for the project. Have i understood this correctly?

I cant understand how to insert the %random_url% %random_anchor_text%  in KM. When you use the Article Links box I tried adding %random_url% to the left hand link side and %random_anchor_text% to the right hand keyword side. It won't let me do this as it says my URL is not formatted properly as it does not start with http://

Am i thinking the right way as the way i want to do it seems logical?

I don't want to hardcode the links and anchor into the article as i want one easy place to add and modify them later.
If i work out how to do this will GSA replace %random_url% %random_anchor_text%  in an article that hasn't been spun?

Is there a way to do this or a better way to achieve what I want to do?

My required outcome:

+ Create a folder on my pc with 1000 articles that dont have urls and anchor text harcoded into them but have a way that GSA adds the link and anchor.

I know i can paste the hole spun document in the article body but i want a bigger pool of articles by building up a few thousand on various lsi keywords all in the same folder.

PS: I also have Auto Content Writer - They 'get it' (i think) as i can just insert a token into the url box and it get sfed into the article

  • Insert one link. Then use something like Notepad++ to substitute a string with the token using the Find in Files function (Ctrl+Shift+F). Perhaps ask KM's author if this is a feature they'd consider adding. But even if they won't, Notepad++ is very quick.

@backlinker I dont' know why you are getting those errors but I do everyday what you are looking for KM to do...If contextual links are enabled in KM, then just input '%url% [or in your case %random_url%] in 'url set1' and %anchor_text% in 'keyword set1'....and KM will print <a href="%url%">%anchor_text%</a> in article [this will be replaced with your url and keyword in SER]

If this is not working for your, use 'custom tokens' [under url settigns] in KM...and just put <a href="%url%">%anchor_text%</a> in custom token
  • Sven has been wonderful to me.  so hopefully this will help.  http://krushinem.net/gsahelp/helpoutvideo.rar

    nm, found out the answer.

@krushinem where's the %random_url% token documented? Can't find it in the docs, but only %url%

  • I don't know if it is documented or not.  Maybe the macro guide hasn't been updated as I think that I looked before and didn't see it either.  I do know this is exactly how it works.  You must always use %url% and %anchor_text%-this is how gsa verifies links-previously members on the forum requested a way to add more links in submissions to better utilize tier linking.  this is where %random_url% and %random_anchor_text% comes into to play.  basically if you plan on using more that 1 link in submissions then you would use the random macro's-hope it helps
  • Guys - thanks for your help. All sorted now. Particular thanks to @krushinem for taking the time to produce a video and upload.

    Cheers Guys

Thanks @Krushinem, that video was helpful. Got the %url% and anchor text setup now.
This will probably sound like a dumb question, but couldn't find it on KM or Google...

I understand what a contextual link, Article body link and what a resource box link is but,
isn't an article body link the same thing as a contextual link?

What is the difference between an article link and a contextual link in Kontent Machine?

  • contexual link = this will replace 'keyword' you used to create article [so if you use 'weightloss' for creating article, KM will replace that keyword with your link and anchor text]
Article link = this will insert link in article [will be anywhere in the article]..This is useful if you want to add more links..like you already have one contextual link but want to add two more links..then this option will add those additional links
  • Thanks @senty4love.  Good to see you on here (Senuke too)
I'm just starting to learn GSA, but it seems like it might be more powerful than SEnuke

But can't figure out how to get GSA to draw an article from a specific folder.
    In the  tools>Import>Data Fields
it doesn't allow choosing a folder (unless I missed something)

How do we get GSA to draw different articles from a folder?  Does it draw all the content (bookmarks, articles, comments) or only articles?  Just wondering for content created by Kontent Machine in a template form for GSA.  Thank you

In the field, right click "choose contents of random file" and then make sure you have the .txt files in that folder. It will pick one at random.

That's awesome and simple UI.  :-)

    Thanks senty4love

that is exactly what I needed to do insert tokens that is. I thought it was simple but that was super easy. Do you know is there any way so that one article can have 2 links and then the next three and the next only one. So you can randomize the number of links using KM and GSA SER?
