First time VPS buyer

I just got myself a nice VPS and I'm ready to use GSA SER.  I was wondering if there's any other software I need besides GSA SER? Meaning do I need security/virus software or just run it bare?

It's Windows Server 2012

I'm not using a security/virus software, and I also saw something that Sven doesn't recommend it(can block some option)
