What is a Web and Trans Proxy?

When I check my proxies in GSA SER some of the proxies are coming up as web proxies and some are trans proxies.

Are web proxies high anonymous http elite L1 Proxies?

Which of the two are more anonymous and better to use?

a proxy is either anonymous or not. I don't get why other tools list them in different categories.

However a TRANS kind of proxy is called CONNECT-Proxy in other tools. It allows you to connect to a proxy using http-CONNECT protocol and for that you can use it for any other protocoll and it is anonymous by nature.

  • @sven Most tools / proxy providers use this classification :

    proxy type :
-HTTP (can support CONNECT method or not)
    - SOCKS4/5

    anonymity :
    - Transparent (L3) : will leak your IP.
    - Anonymous (L2) : Don't leak your IP, but the server can detect your are using a proxy.
    - Elite / High-anonymous (L1) : Don't leak your IP and the server can't tell if you are using a proxy or not.

The SER classification can be confusing for some people when they see TRANS and assume their proxies are not anonymous.

I agree on this, but a TRANSPARENT type is actually more clear ... at least for a coder. I might have to change this though I guess.
  • When I checked a few public proxies, under type they came up as WEB.  What level of anonymity are these proxies?  Under the anonymity tab there was a question mark. @Seven @sawa73

Every other type except WEB is anonymous by default. The WEB one can be anonymous or not. Depends on what they deliver to the remote server. You can check that (anonymous Yes/No) when testing the proxy against the anonymous test URL.
  • Thank you, that helps a lot.
