Moving to https to escape on-page penalty

Has anyone ever tried this? I have a site, say http://domain1.com that has been hit by the Panda update last week. If I 301 the old http: to https: but keep the same domain, does anyone know if Google will treat this as a new site?

I'm really not sure if it's worth a try or not. I haven't been hit by Panda before so it's new territory.

Alright so just to update, no this doesn't work. I didn't think Google would be silly enough to treat an http and https site differently, but it was worth a try.

I just noticed this thread @spunko2010 and thought it was a great idea. You sure 3 days is enough of a test?

Well, I actually posted this a few days after first setting it up, so 5 days, but still probably not. I'm going to wait a bit longer anyway, maybe another week.

But I 301-d my other penalized domain the same day to a brand new domain and it's recovered ranks already. Might be due to another factor I guess.
