Google 'Pigeon' update - anyone seen anything?

Seems to be for local searches and en-US only so far, so doesn't affect me at all yet. But I'm always interested in ways to prepare. has anyone been affected? I can't see any discussion here so I guess not...

  • Here's a good local forum - http://localsearchforum.catalystemarketing.com/ that has done some analysis on the shake up.

They're about whitehat as you can get but they do have some good info.
  • Waiting to see if CCarter posts anything on the BHU premium forum, he's usually up to date with everything :P

SEORoundTable are reporting lots of activity 8th or 9th August, i lost a big slab of traffic from several of my highest traffic sites on 4th August any coincidence?

^ Are your sites locally focused though? And are they USA targeted? if not, probably not the Pigeon update, but something else. No changes here (UK) yet...
  • Yep exactly what i saw on august 7/8th. :/

It's odd there's not much info in bhw, as usually there are lots of ppl talking about updates when smth going on.

What i see is that newer projects, usa targeted, that hadn't been settled yet, are jumping up and down like a madman. Also seems that adding high authority links don't give the fast boost like before.. could be because of the ongoing update.

Would be helpful if those who are seeing changes would state if this is for local results or not...
  • Only my local sites have been affected by the Pigeon update. Started seeing moving beginning on 8/5. These sites generally hold down the A spot but have been bouncing around the 7 pack for the last week. I dont use SER on any of these sites, mainly just white hat stuff.
  • Not seen anything here across 50-odd sites. Most in the UK but not local kws all national, some in the US. I've noticed the search volumes are oddly high at the moment for kws that were previously lower, and the CPC has risen on some of my kws which shows people are retardly bidding over the odds because of these fucking updates.

Like it or not, Google is cashing in. Can we (at least a billion people would do) have an almighty push to use Bing for a week or something or click on every Adsense advert possible making people waste money so they give up with it and stop paying into the Google pot.

Not really relevant to this thread I don't think but one of my previously manually penalised pages has been slapped again, after a good 2 months run of routing the old URL through a 301.  Just re-routed it again, keep up Google ;)

I've not seen anything across the 12 sites we have ranking right now, nor any changes in our PBN (Which is several hundred sites strong).

    Dodged this update I suppose.

^ Not sure where you are locaetd but it's apparently only been rolled out to US searches.
