Are you backlinking to HTTP or HTTPS?

Hi guys! :)

Does it make a difference to backlink to HTTPS://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxx
or HTTP://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxx
?

  • Don't think there is much difference, https show up when you are logged into Gmail or any other Google property.

I usually link to http version.

As far as I know it dosn't make a difference, google still sees it as a link and gives it credit. If it wasn't given credit by google non of the big ecomerce sites would rank? ..right? Interested in hearing others thoughts on this too
  • To make it look more natural to google, I also use,

    http;//youtu.be/xxxxxx
    http;//youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxx

Didn't see much difference in ranking...

  • @olve1954 I guess that's the best we can do :) Keep everything as natural as possible.

I personally use all versions when link building www. http: https: http://www. https://www. and without anything like dogtraining.com, some with trailing slash some without .etc. I like to make my link building look as natural as possible and in the real world all versions of your url would be shared and linked not just one type 1000s of times.
  • To rank Youtube video, is article manager necessary? Do you use Knotent machine to build either articles or fill in the blanks, such as about me, description and so on?

    Thank you.

Never tested difference but it look like normal Google can like that, i want says big G like you take care of you website like page speed https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/, content ....

So backlinks https could count could add a little + ... (Just my opinion without test).

I do all versions too. Best to future-proof your links in case of any updates by Google to account for it, although linking to https and http doesn't seem to have any difference.

Anyone ever tried installing an SSL Cert on their site and 301ing every non-https link to https and then spamming the http links only ? I.e. no direct links to https as they are all filtered through 301. I did try it, but for some reason didn't see any gains. I should revisit it, the theory is there....
  • @spunko2010 - you're full of ideas, aren't you? :P
