I ran some testing a few years back, I managed to move one app from 100-500 downloads (this was when Play showed a little download trending graph) to 10-15k downloads. I tried again in a more competitive niche but probably chose the wrong app to run SER on as it only moved a few positions.
*Problem was that no rank tracker at the time could give positional data so I was using incognito mode/private browsing on Chrome and FireFox
**Problem 2 was that I didn't tell the owners and their content could have been better, more interaction with users to get them to rate the app (bit like local SEO and reviews).
About a year later I tried again and got in touch with 100s and found a few developers that were willing to let me do SEO on them. I gave them a performance target of x thousand of downloads if they gave me access to their Analytical data, and then I'd start charging. Obviously, they were happy that they would get a free service until a certain level but both guys (two different niches, developers, countries of origin) disappeared. Whether that meant that they got loads of downloads or none I don't know. Probably loads and were creaming off the profits rather than pay for it. So I gave in.
Basically, yeah I am 85% sure you can. Even better is a website with a download link use various forms of marketing, organic, PPC, FB ads, Twatty Social Media things.

Hmm, it looks like Google Play shows the amount of downloads again...this will be handy.
I genuinely don't mean to be an asshole here but will people download the app to buy just from your shop? I can't see there being a point in having an app. Is your only goal from the app to have sales of AV products? The only apps I have for purchasing are Amazon and eBay, not smaller shops or I'd have no memory left on my phone if I did.
