Clarification on random authority URL option

If I have the "insert random authority urls" option ticked but I do not have the option ticked "try to use search engines to find related links", how would GSA find the authority links that it uses?

Could use some clarification on this part

    Pretty sure SER would take what you have put i in your keyword field on the data tab, do a google search and pull the top 10 links or something then add them.

    Is it adding real URLs or just random authority sites with a tag like www.deviantart.com%KEYWORD% instead of www.deviantart.com_keyword.
