Well I have no idea what email provider you use, but obviously you use something wrong in here. Also most servers do not need pop3 access before smtp one. You can disable that.

i am using a hosted email from my cpanel. i created an email address and am using the credentials provided. keep getting the same strange error popup

You were correct. I removed the pop3 selection and boom! worked. Thanks
